More than half of the world’s population resides in urban areas. These areas are the activity and production centers of the world, accounting for a large percentage of the overall energy use, waste production and land use/land cover change. Because of the importance of urban areas as population and production centers, understanding their role in climate change and how they will be affected by climate change is critical. The overall objective of this proposal is to improve our general understanding of the links between rapid urbanization and climate change.
