We will be running a booth at the Utah Lake Festival with a watershed model demo and laptops with current conditions from GAMUT and Utah Lake sonde data.

"The main goals of the Utah Lake Festival are to educate the public about what is being done to improve the lake, promote recreational activities, and allow the attendees to enjoy a beautiful Saturday at one of Utah’s greatest natural resources.

A century of research focused primarily on agricultural soils has largely ignored stony soils, which dominate some forests and are poorly understood in terms of the stone influence on soil hydraulic properties. Motivated by this knowledge gap, we quantified the influence of soil-containing stone fragments on bulk soil hydraulic properties by determining the water retention curve (WRC) of soil, stone and stone-soil mixtures with varied volumetric stone content.

Utah Geographic Information Council 2017 Conference

During the summer of 2014, researchers surveyed residents of the Cache, Salt Lake, and Heber valleys as part of an NSF-funded research project called iUTAH that examines water-related issues in the light of the region’s rapid urban growth and changing climate. The survey resulted in a database of survey responses from 2400+ households, geocoded to the parcel of residence. Subsequent analysis of these data seeks to understand whether attitudes and behaviors are influenced by location.

Through field trips and urban gardening, 4th grade students at Rose Park Elementary will engage in; 1. Measuring and understanding the relationship between water and ecosystems, 2. Assessing water use behaviors and decisions and how these influence the urban environment, and 3. Establishing uniform data sets to understand the ties between human and environmental water systems.
