K through 6th grade Library After-School Program

Brief talk celebrating – the importance of water conservation; creating a poem about rain and drought; the effects of drought around the world and here in Utah; the importance of glaciers as part of powering the water cycle; making snowflakes to make a glacier. Such a different event – from preschool children to older adults – I think everyone had a good time, enjoyed writing a poem together, choral reading a poem together, and making snowflakes while talking about “water is life.”

Abstract: "Planning for more sustainable and resilient campuses is an interdisciplinary endeavor that involves a great deal of social and cultural change, and social science research has a great deal to offer such efforts. Engaging students, staff, and faculty using participatory action research approaches can facilitate the acquisition of important knowledge useful for decision-making, and also give students and others a chance to engage with sociology and understand its applicability and utility.
