Abstract or Short Description:

The Jail has an extensive ongoing horticulture program, and a classroom interaction session was a good fit to what the inmates were already learning. This location has only male inmates, so my audience was limited to male adults. I put up some slides, and it was a bi-directional conversation about Utah's water future, how water-wise plants and efficient irrigation can help in reducing water use, and how the inmates can explore career options in water-wise landscaping. We also explored how Utah's climate was not conducive to traditional plant choices, and how the state was looking to transition into more water wise landscaping. We explored external resources to help inmates make a career out of water wise landscaping.
